na, you'll be fine with painted lowers. your car would look better with painted lowers and a couple chips than without painted lowers. Besides, you can always touch up chips, just like you have to on your hood, etc. I mean if you drive it, its gonna get a little wear.
But if you have a shop do it, or do it yourself and do it right, it will be pretty resistant to chips.
