Default Main dealer can't program new key!

Hello, as my username implies I'm getting sick of my A4 but I'm desperate to love it once more!

Anyway, I lost one of my keys a few months ago and have been trying to replace without any luck. I took my car to a locksmith who said he'd be able to sort out a replacement fob, but his computer gadget wouldn't allow him to do it. He said my engine number type wasn't listed on his machine. He was surprised because he'd managed to code keys for newer models than mine.

So, I bit the bullet and took the car to a main dealer. The key arrived today and I went to get it coded but they're saying there's a fault with my car that is preventing them from getting access!! They want another hour or two's labour just to diagnose the problem. Apparently it should allow them to link up then obtain codes from Germany?

Has anybody else heard of a problem like this? I'm wondering if it could be somehow related to my other ongoing and seemingly unsolvable issue in this thread https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=159558 ?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated because I've spent a fortune on this car recently and it hasn't made any difference whatsover.

My model appears to be a bit of a hybrid by the way. It's a 2004 A4 1.8T but is one of the very last models of its shape. I believe it has the next generation engine and some of the other componants.

I have a 2008 A6 and I bought a remote key from Ikeyless.com. I had it cut and brought it to my Audi dealer and was told there is something wrong with the chip in the key. I returned it to Ikeyless and they replaced the chip in the key, but when I brought it to Audi, they said it would not program. Now, Ikeyless is saying Audi is doing it on purpose. So I have $90 in a key that does not work. By the way, Audi wants $175.00 for the same key. Anyone else can help?
