maintenance
my audi has about 100,000 miles on i dont seem to remember if the last owner did a tune up a belt change or anything like that. what are the changes i should do to keep my car in tiop runing condition?
How many miles were on the car when you bought it? If you don't know if your timing belt has been replaced, you better find out...pronto. Your timing belt, tensioner, water pump, etc. should have been replaced at 60K-70K miles, so if you're up to 100K, you're living on borrowed time. That belt could break any day now, and if it does, you're looking at a blown motor and several thousands to repair or replace it.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to tell if the belt has been replaced without taking it apart and inspecting it...a very time-consuming procedure. Get that previous to owner to think REALLY hard, try digging up some service records, whatever. If nothing else, find out where he got all of his maintainence done....if he went to the dealer, you're in luck, because they probably performed schedule maintainence by the book to milk as much cash out of him as possible. If it's an independent shop, give them a call, they might have records.
