Default Milltek IN!

Well I was going to do pics and step by step and yada yada, but I recieved it in the mail today and wanted to get it done fast. Started around 7 pm and got done around 11:30. Probably would have gone faster if I was using something more than one floor jack [&:]. They say its a "cat back"... But its really a downpipe back system. Of course there were a couple devil bolts on the clamp between the resonator and down pipe. COMPLETELY rusted and deformed. So I took a small-ish wratchet bit and hammered it on the rusty bolts, connected my wrench to it and got them off that way. The fitment of the new system is PERFECT. Looks great too.. I promise to have pics and a video tomorrow.. its too late and dark now. Let me say this: The ******* car can breath now! The engine performance feels much less restricted than before and there is a noticeable decrease in lag from a stop and when getting on it while cruising. Higher RPM's scream now and it just feels like the car lost 1000 pounds. The sound is actually not that much louder than stock. Its very mellow like advertised. It has a very nice subtile growl at idle and the tone when driving is more throaty than stock, but barely. I would never compare it to borla, or any other aftermarket exhaust as far as sound. Its great for what I wanted and expected out of it. I am just VERY pleased with the performance difference... I cant believe how bogged down it was with the stock exhuast. Car is deffianately more fun to drive Sorry for the long thread, Im just stoked.
Im going to stop at a muffler shop tomorrow to get the pipes welded where clamps are currently holding everything together.

Will post pics and a vid tomorrow.

BTW... If anybody needs it, I have my stock exhaust ready to be put in a dumpster. If you want it let me know you just need to pay the shipping.. Its in good shape with no holes or leaks and minimal surfface area rust and its reaaaallll quiet.

#1 - I was expecting pics or video. Damn you.

#2 - That was not even REMOTELY a "long thread" compared to some I've seen (and written) on here.

#3 - Congrats on the new mod ! ! !

Your Milltek should change tone after you put around 5000 miles on the car. The tone will drop an octave and get much bassier.

My Milltek acutally changed its tone twice already and the purr at idle and the sound it makes when I prowl around a underground parking lot for an open spot is sweet.

If you are going to plan to have the slipjoints welded together then you should have a flange added as well in order to make it easier to work on the engine in the future if you have to drop the exhaust.

Easier to drop just 1/2 of it rather than to have the whole exhaust removed and reinstalled.

You can get some tips from my Milltek installation here: http://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/863960.phtml

congrats bro! why didnt you go custom?

can you do me favor? measure your stock mufflers dimensions? like length and width of both muffs. I'm trying to put together a custom exhaust but i dont know what size to get... thanks bro.

Thanks for the info mc hammered... I'll tell them that when I go today to get it welded. Drove it on the highway to work this morning and did notice is getting a LITTLE more growlier... Deffinately looking forward to the next 5000 miles-as far as sound goes.. I read you talking about that in one of your threads on audizine or auidi world before.

Smokeu i didnt go custom because it was worth my time and money to get a guaranteed exact fitment and I didnt mind paying extra for the milltek name and quality. Ill take measurements for you no problem. But for fwd the measurements are different than quattro, i think the muffler itself is like 21 inches long.

evoic, ill do pics and a vid tonight, unfortunately i dont get out of work until its dark but ill find an open parking lot and have some fun... Or i can do a daylight vid on Saturday, or both... I love looking out the window at work seeing my shiny tips!!

And thank god for living in a house and having neighbors to borrow a hack saw from or else it wouldnt have gotten installed last night! Had to cut the stock exhaust between the resonator and muffler to get it out... That alone took over an hour... That was the only pita part because i had to do it on my back at a crazy angle and my back/head/upper body is hurting today [:@]

Glad to hear you got it done!!!

So more power in the upper revs?

That must be why mine doesn't lose power at higher revs, cause the exhaust.

I know we were discussing shift points before, and I was saying how I shift at 6k when hitting hard. Mine still does good up there, maybe yours does now as well.

Anyway, glad to hear you got in done, First mod in the new garage!

yea like MC said its going to get a little more bassier as the fiberglass packing gets burned away... It takes a couple months like he mentioned but when you get there... Oh man that is one sexy euro sophistocated growl
