mini truck to a4...
hows it going everyone, im new here. im coming from a mini truck back ground 2003 bagged s10, bagged astro van, and now a 98 s10 ss just lowered. anyway im looking to get a a4 quattro with the 3.0 with a 6 speed. i do not know much about these cars but reading the forums makes me want one more and more. ive read alot about the 1.8t and how many mods there are for it and ive read about how the 3.0 is easier to maintain due to no turbo. i just want to lower th a4 like 2 inch and put some nice rims on it... not donks lol but i would just like a super clean car that is reasonably fast. does anybody know the 1/4 mile times for a stock a4 quattro 1.8t, and the a4 quattro 3.0 ? i am very excited about this switch as this will be the 1st car i`ve owned. thanks alot guys and girls, and last question what is a reasonable price with an a4 quattro 3.0 with around 45,000 miles with the 6 speed? thanks everyone -mike
2004 A4 1.8t - 16.2 @ 87mph

2004 A4 3.0 - 15.8 @ 89mph

But then if you throw $500 into the 1.8t for a chip, it will be faster than the 3.0.
I would REALLY recommend the 1.8t over the 3.0. The maintenance differences aren't that big, the only things that you really have to worry about are boost leaks, and thats pretty rare. I've had my 98 A4 1.8t for a year now, and haven't had ANY 1.8t related problems.
Good luck, and go for the 1.8t[sm=trust_me.gif]

If your just lowering and want a nice clean car the 3.0 has some nice gear on the inside. Power seats with heaters. Much more of a mellow car then the 1.8 after a few mods but they are quick enough. I just got one a few days ago not knowing the major differance between them but am very happy its a strong running car and will give you a good time. The temp outside makes a differance so if your in a hotter area get the 1.8 you'll be a ton happier. If a mellow soft ride find one with the sports package like mine and it will be a very fun ride...
Time for me to go cant leave this car alone still havnt been able to relly get on it and find its limits the harder I push it the more it laughs at me asking for more.

Whats up man? I can tell you from experience that your going to love the audi world more than the minitruck world. I parted with my '00 bagged and bodydropped S10 back in January of this year and purchased a '03 A4 1.8 since I've always wanted one. I love this car and driving it 10 times more than laying out the S10 for some girls at a red light. Get a 1.8 quattro, it has more potential than the 3.slow. An '03 should run you no more than 19,000 with the mileage your looking for. Shop around though, the prices fluctuate throughout the year. You can also find lease returns that were meticulously maintained and barely driven. I found my '03 1.8T frontrack 5 spd. this past february w/ 37,000 miles for 16,900 and the car is beautiful ad came w one year left on the warranty. Don't settle for junk, shop around.
so the 1.8t with a 300.00 chip will take the 3.0? thats pretty cool. bagged trucks are fun, but nothing says style like an audi from what i noticed! i found a few 1.8t`s for around 16,500 for an 03 with 50k. it will be about a month till i get back from this underway, i still need to sell my 98 s10 though. is this "chip" an actual chip or a programmer like hypertech? and ive been looking around for some modification web sites for these rides but no real luck. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks again! -mike
This is the setup I'd recommend, either this, or the Revo chip.

a "chip" for an audi (dbw years) is an ecu flash, where differently mapped software is uploaded into it
which is great, because its easy.. just take it there, and have them upload it, but it lacks the ability to only change things you want to like the hypertech would on a domestic car or truck.
deffinatly go 1.8t 6 speed quattro, quattro is a must, and then get that apr1+ software

I really think that the 3.0's are a really nice engine.... Throw an exhaust on it, and an intake, and it really sounds sick!
Then again, by 98 with open exhaust sounds like an early 5cyl turbo, which is sick... lol
As far as price.. KBB is a good judgement..
