Brrman...I am looking for a 7 inch in dash touch screen display..but I was wondering if you or imolas4 knew a good and cheap site to get one and exactly, again i repeat, EXACTLY what I need to set it up. Right now the front dash for my 99 2.8 Quattro is stock. So I was wondering what I needed to set it up. Also I have a wooden trim? If I do get a indash 7" touch screen monitor would that ruin the trim or be able to keep the wooden trim?
Thanks guys
You will lose the wooden trim. You need to cut out a hole and bondo in the front of the lcd housing. There are no kits for this. Putting an lcd screen in the dash is not a simple deal. It takes custom fabrication and a willingness to alter more than just the face plate of the dash. The inner cage will have to be altered as well. The fan grid and piping for the auto climate control needs to be moved, and some of the cage that held in the radio has to be trimmed away.

You will never get "everything thing you need" without some personal ingenuity. There is no "exactly". All these systems are thrown together with what you want to make it with.

As a beginning I would suggest you go to www.mp3car.com and lurk there for a while. You will soon find everything you need to know. A carputer is no small undertaking and you better be willing to take some chances with your car. You can go cheap or you can go expensive - it will show in the end which way you went.

A warning tho - once you start there is no end in sight. You will always be adding to it.
That said - once you get it in there... it is the SHIZNAT!

Right on brrman! So it's on, eh? I think you covered it all, at least that I can think of now. Although, how about brakes? Did you do anything to your other A4? What color is your Avant? I forgot. You were able to save the wheels I take it? Or maybe, maybe even better yet, the insurance company ponied for new ones? Whe do you get it? Or do you already have it?
Brakes I am not worried about unless I K04 or I want to track the car. We'll come to that bridge when we cross it.
The Avant is the same color as my sedan - I was looking for that. The wheels are in my garage - I will be taking the two curbed ones to be fixed this week. Won;t pick up the car for another week - payout on the existing lienholder has some dumbass 7 day waiting policy before issuing a release of lien.

- Indash 7" touchscreen
Well I was gonna ask about that too, but you more than answered that question. After that whole explanation I think I'll wait til I'm good and ready to spend A LOT of time in the car modding the grid and face plate and other stuff. That sounds like somewhat of an endeavor!

Right on brrman. If you want a hand putting in some fo the electronics in the new ride, give me a shout. I'd be happy to help, that's what I did to pay the bills in college. Installing custom home and car systems.
