there's something to be said for having all the original parts. you know the car, the ins and outs. the engine in the boxster blew w/about 1200 miles left on the orig warranty. theporsche put a new engine (your or my cost $12k) in. car never felt right again. let it go @ the end of the lease. also, in todays carfax crazy society, if you ever plan to resell, the engine swap will show. personally, i'd wait til 90k and do it. and these people are right, anything they can do to weasel out of paying, they will. remember, insurance companies are there to make money.

I read in one extended warranty that they can choose where you get your car worked on - and that means NO Auid dealer. I also have seen where they put a limit on the hourly shop rate that they will cover, so if the shop charges a higher rate - guess who pays the difference

back to the main topic of this thread. If you willing to take the chance and deal with a big damn hasstle and loosing your car for a period of time then go for it. Don't always assume they would just "replace" the engine - they might rebuild it and you will forever have problems with the engine. (or so I've heard)

I would just wait till 90k and then do it. its not like the 100k is a magic number, zrwhat had her TB break at 45k

Yea, the extended warranty is getting on my nerves. It has the "within 40 miles of original dealer you have to take it to them". And when I originally bought the warranty, the guy selling it to me told me I could take it anywhere and never mentioned a deductible. So I'm a little annoyed at the dealer/warranty and was trying to think of ways to get my money's worth. But I'll prob just changethe TBaround 90k. Who knows, I could be on a date when it dies on me. haha.

sure they will try to weasel out of it.... but there are lots of people with 70-80k and no problems... i havent read of a timing belt failure on a b6 in a long long time... i would do it and will do mine myself between 80-90k
