Also look at air filter and spark plugs. I'm not saying it isn't the O2 sensor , but start with the easy inexpensive stuff.

 

depending on your engine - ECS sells a VW brand O2 sensor for 25 bucks. Mine gets here today.

 

i get about 240miles to the tank. all city driveing....highway i get decent milage but hardy usse it.

 

the first thing you should really do is check your air filter and if there is nothing wrong with that it kinda sucks but you just have to work your way back. It doesn't sound to normal

 

wow im so pleased with the response i have been getting, and yeah i think i should check the air filter, its that strong gassy smell thats linked to bad milage, how would i know air filter is bad (sorry about how dumb that sounds)

also (ill search forum for this) how do i change the air filter?

It's on the front right side of engine. Remove screws for intake duct. Remove screws for heat shield. Undo 3 of 4 clips on filter box. The 4th clip is very difficult. Wear gloves or get cut up. Remove and replace filter.

man now im getting told a million things why my car may have that gassy smell???

1) bad injectors
2) O2 sensor
3) cat system
4) air filter
5) ECU
6)spark plugs

all this just to find out where a gassy smell/poor gas milage is comming from =(
