Default My car needs to go on diet...

I want to put my car on diet and lighten it up. I know I could get carbon fibre hood and trunk, but is there much of a difference?

I know I could rip out the back seats and do all kinds of ther crazy stuff....

I want to lighten the car but still retain my ability to carry 5 peeps.

cant do it, if you want to be light enough to make a noticable differnence, back seats gota come out, along with everything else back there.

You could take all the liners out of the trunk, removal of soeakers, replacement glass, removal of all the plastic covers in the engine bay, and just have a bare engine, soundproofing out of the doors, remove the spare wheel, and just have a can of tire weld. It depends on how much you want to strip the inside. Stuff like the door liners can come out, and carpet, and the roof liner. Lightweight seats in the front, and carbon body panels. It all depends on how extreme you want to go.

I think one day, I will go absolutely crazy!! I was going to buy an S4 later, but it is such a heavy car that I could possible match it with my car, granted its light enough with more HP. I love the look of the carbon fiber hoods and trunk lids but will I notice anything? How much would that shed off? Seats, too!

Aren't carbon fibre hoods about 7 or so kilograms? Not sure what the weight of a stock hood is though. Oh, and if you have a sunroof, they can be heavy...

Is it going to make a difference, though?

not unless you get rid of 100 or more pounds, and let me tell you, thats alot of stuff. I agree with toff, Taking out the sound proffing will do alot and then get rid of everything that doesn't make the car steer, go or stop. that about the only way.

Unsprung weight would be brakes, wheels, tires, lower control arms, the shock/spring assembly itself and that's it. Granted, each unsprung pound does significantly more to your performance than taking away weight that's accounted for by the suspension, but there's only so much you can do about that.

And Toff, if you get a real carbon fiber body panel, it's more like 4 pounds (2 kilograms?) not 15. Regular steel hoods and trunks weigh between (roughly) 20-30 pounds.

Evil, compared to other AWD sedans, the A4 isn't too bad. A WRX is almost 3100, an STi is about 3250, an Evo is within a couple pounds of the STi. A manual, 1.8T Quattro sedan is about 3250. It's just down on horsepower to an STi by exactly 100 percent.

I wouldn't do it. Save your money and get an S4 one day. None of that stuff will bring up resale value, and will most likely bring it down.
