Default My cherry's popped... First CEL.

I feel so special, haha.

I was driving around last night, and looked down to see my CEL on... Strange, the car wasn't running weird, or acting at all different. So today I stopped by germancarmaniac's work and we ran the diagnostics.

-P0171 System Too Lean (Base 1)

So we cleared it, and I drove around all day and it stayed off, and it just came back on after driving around for 4 hours. Soooo... What does that mean? What do I need to replace here?

Thanks in advance,

Try the fuel filter.. Or.. I have read lately that B6's are known to have premature fuel pump failure or something like that. Any hard starts lately or rough idle? I know you said nothing is obvious.. But if its too lean that means its not getting enough fuel right?

Also, im sure you are trying this.. But entering "P0171 System Too Lean (Base 1) Audi B6" into any search engine or in audiworld.com search etc. could get you some further info, or what the possibilites are.

No vacuum leak, idle's a bit rough, but it's always been, other than that I'm at a loss... Guess I have to dish out the money to have the local shop take care of it.

Man I'm really starting to think I can't afford this thing.[:@]

If you invest in a vag tool you can see all kinds of things that might tell you whats going on. Fuel, Air, boost etc. HOW MANY MILES DO YOU HAVE?

Doesnt a bad 02 sensor cause a rich, not lean condition?

Your avatar freaks me out man...

o2 sensor can go both ways dependant on fuel air mix but it could be a build up of carbon on the o2 sensor or the heated side of it HO2S if its not reaching the required temp then it will throw the code,

my today avatar is of the famous Tommy Cooper ( Comedian and Magician ) I knew him well and still makes me laugh
