okay when i have my car running or whatever and i want to switch the airflow from mid vents to defrost vents, i push the defrost button, the defrost logo comes on the display but the air doesnt change which vent is coming out? same with if i want to change it to blow on the floor, the display shows the downward arrow but the air coming out stays the same on the mid vents!

rear defrost works, i click the AC button and the AC kicks on, the fan control works, it will push alot of air out or a little, just the only thing thats wrong is where its coming out! if it was stuck on defrost then it wouldnt be a problem but winter is fast approaching and i NEED front defrost!

anyone have any ideas?

how is the direction of the airflow changed under the dash? vacuum? servos?

oh sorry, its a 1996 A4. not sure if it matters but its a 2.8 with a 5 speed.. quattro

 

Find someone with a vagcom using the vagcom locator and have them check for codes in the HVAC system. Most likely one of the flap valve motors is burned out.

 

ok sweet. would this be something an audi/VW dealership could check for too? i might just make the trip and have them check it out and possibly fix it
