My OCTANE Theory
I'm stuck with 91 octane here in California.
There's no 93 octane, only the 100 octane stuff for right around $5.50-$6 per gallon.
Since premium 91 gas is about $3.50-$4 here right now, I'm wondering if I should just always spend the extra $7 or $8 or so for 4-5 gallons of 100 octane every time I fill up.
That way I can always run my car with the APR 93 program.
12 gallons of 91 octane, then 4.5 gallons of 100 octane gives me 93.45 octane and the gas here is generally 0.2 higher than stated, which leaves me at approximately 93.65 octane.
She should burn quick and nasty.
Anyone wanna' shoot holes in my theory?
.
***Or even cheaper. 12.5 gallons of 91 (12.5x91=1137.5) + 4 gallons of 100 (4x100=400) = 16.5 gallons of 93.18 octane. Add the 0.2 extra that is typical at the pump and we get 93.38 octane.
. 1,137.5
+ 400
------------
. 1,537.5
/ 16.5
------------
. 93.18
+ 0.20
------------
. 93.38 Octane

looks good to me man, my only question is about using higher octane fuel without the programing for it, think the ECU figues it out, i have run 97 in my car and didnt really feel to much difference, aw well hah
1st question: What apr chip did you get ? 91/93???
If you got 91, you dont "need" to run 93. 93 gas isnt "better" its different. If your not tuned for it , it doesnt matter.
Certain cituations like high heat and such may arrise in which you may need the extra octane but yea...
at any rate, I dont see a need for you to spend the extra money.

I have Stock and 91, just got 93.
For a while I was considering 100 octane, but it's just not reality when I think about $100 every time I fill up the Audi.
The 93 program, along with my Octane theory are what I decided instead.

Arif,
it just depends on the state you live in, other midwest states don't sell 91 octane, they only sell 93.
Evo, why not just get hte 100 octane added on top of your other programs, and just use the 100 program when you track it or something, or else, trying using your theory for one tank, see how it feels, then for your next tank, do what Chef and I do, use the booster added on top of the 91, then compare your results.

IMHO, just get the 91 program and live with it.
To me this would be a lot of added headache for very little performance gain.
What if you want to fill the tank to go on a trip and its already 2/5ths full? Get out the calculator and paper!
Just seems like a hassle to me.

Yeah - that's a hard decision to make.
As much as I'm a fanatic about maximizing my efficiency I think that would be a little much work for such marginal gains. However, there's no holes in your theory... More power to you (no pun intended) if you actually go with 93.
