Mystery Performance Issue
Hello -
I have a 2000 A4 Quattro Tiptronic, I've owned this car since July 2003. The past few months I've been having some strange performance issues. First the issue: Check engine light is on, when the engine is usually at a lower RPM and you give it gas, the car will start bucking. Let of the gas a sec and then back on, its usually fine. This does not happen all the time.
I have taken the car to my local shop, they did read the codes. The first time, it came back with the coolant temperature sensor and the catalytics. At that time, I had them change the coolant temperature sensor, as I did not have the financial means to do the cats. The issue persisted for another few months. Today I got my car back after having the cats done, they were done with aftermarket direct fit cats. The problem still persists. The check engine light is still on, I have not had it rescanned as of yet.
At this point I'm pretty lost, I know without the codes its tough to troubleshoot. I'm starting to lean towards some sort of fuel system issue, but I could be wrong. Any ideas? Let me know if you need more info. Thanks.

Change out your brake light switch...
my b6 was doing this and it turned out that my brake light switch was bad. It was 'telling' my ecu that the brakes were engaged, so the ecu cut the throttle. This mainly happened when accelerating from a stop. Letting off on the throttle and then stepping back on it would cure the problem.
This is a simple and cheap 10 minute DIY that requires no special tools and a $30 brake light switch. Nothing lost and if it doesn't work, at least you've ruled it out.
here's the link to the DIY:

good luck,

RE: Change out your brake light switch...
Sorry, its a 2.8, my bad.
I took the car to AutoZone today and when the read it, the codes came back as follows:
P1114
P1118
P0140
P0302
On the printout, they don't have Audi as one of the brands, so I would assume to use VW? The other option is OBDII.
Using the VW codes:
P1114 & P1118 are O2 sensors. When I got the cats replaced, they used the original O2 sensors.
P0140 is also O2 sensor I think
P0302 is a misfire in Cylinder number 2
If the car was misfiring, I would assume it would run rich. Could that cause the O2 sensors to go off?
The car has 89K on it, I have not gotten a tune up since I've owned it, I bought it with 40K.
