Name that part
Hello everyone,
I have a 99.5 A4 1.8T with 107k miles. I bought it a few weeks ago.
The CEL has been turning on for:
P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)
The fuel cap was checked during the emissions test and it passed. Following the fuel lines under the hood, I followed them to the right side, going under a plastic cover right next to the right fenderwell and there is some sort of check valve right there. In the case of my car, this check valve was completely wrapped in this very strong tape, but it was indeed broken big time. The "check valve" itself is oriented right/left not front/rear. I don't have a camera available right now to take a picture. I was wondering if anyone here knows from my description of what I am talking about and can tell me what exactly it is, so that I can buy a new one. Also, if you think that this has nothing to do with the CEL, let me know.
Thanks.

RE: Name that part
I can't find any part number on it. Half of the plastic is missing.
It is not the valve with the connector on it. This one is smaller, like a common one-way check valve. From the valve by the right fender that has a connector on it, a line goes out and splits into two (like a "Y") and one of the splits goes into this "check valve" and the other goes into a hard line that follows the firewall to the left side. The other side of the "check valve" goes into a short hose that connects to a hard line that goes straight down right next to the intake air filter box.
This little "check valve" is not even an inch long.
