Default NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!!

Hey guys, I have a 96 A4 12v. This morning on my way to work, all of a sudden, the gear selector on the guage cluster lit up for every gear from P to 2 ! Then the car started to seem like it would not go into overdrive? I need all the help I can get and any ideas on how to fix it. Thanks alot guys.

I'm not sure since I have a manual transmission, but maybe that's an indicator of something along the lines of the transmission going into limp mode? Did you notice it to be willing to shift up through the gears (except for overdrive) or did you see it basically stay in one gear? Sometimes, if that's the case, you can shut the car off for a minute or two, and then restart it and it'll clear itself and go back to normal. If not, you're gonna want to scan the car for codes and see if anything comes up, regardless of whether you have a check engine light (CEL) or not.

+1

could have been a misfire, getting a code reader would be the first thing i would do as well.

Thanks guys. I had hoped having the car sit awhile would reset something but it did not. I am bringing it in tomarrow to have it checked out. If anyone else has any ideas, let me know, I don't want to get screwed over on this one.
