if its his money, his dad should trust him enough to spend it on things that will somehow not ruin his car. if he didn't raise his son to be trustworthy enough to lower a car 2 inches... he failed as a father. if i had to run to my dad everytime i wanted to spend a few hundred bucks when i was 17 or 18.... well, i wouldn't ask, i would have just done it. its your car man, do with it whatever you want. if your parents don't ok every decision you make, so be it. that's part of being an adult, thinking for yourself and acting on it. but if you're going to use your dads hookups to make it happen cheaper, then... well.. i guess its up to him. but he should trust you a little.
