need help installing HID Fogs
Hey guys .. can anyone direct me to a DIY or explain how toinstalling hid fogs .. I just purchased vvme H7 for my fogs 1999.5 B5 .. ithought it was a straight plug and play for the fogs .. it seems like thepower source for the fogs does notconnect directly to the ballast? Do i need to modify the fog light connect to fit the ballast .. confused ..
I think I need to splice the old wire harness clip (white and brown wires) and attached it to the what i beliwve is the new harness clip supplied in the kit (blue and black wires) if that makes sense .. Then the new clip should fit into the ballast ..Anyone installed the VVME HID KIT for the Fogs?

i haven't seen a DIY for that. it should be the same as the headlights. they say it's plug and play but i had to put a hole on the back headlight cover. you might have to do the same thing. the harness for the fogs should be the same as the headlights because they're all h7.
Except that the connector on the outside of the fog housing is a little different if I remember right from when I installed them on my 99. What you may have to do is drill a hole for the wires to pass through the back of the fog housing directly to the HID bulbs. You don't want to try and use the jumper wiring inside the fog housing (from the external connector to the halogen bulb) to handle the ~22,000 volts that the ballast puts out. Drill out the back of the housing, install the HID bulbs, and run the ballast cables into the housings. Be sure to keep the hole as small as you can, and try to weather-seal it as well as possible as well. Then you should be in business.

Main thing to remember is the voltage you're dealing with. With xenon lights, the voltage is huge, and normal wiring will not handle it. You need a straight shot from the ballast to the HID bulb, via the heavy-duty cabling coming off the ballast. All you have to do is find the way to route those cables directly to the bulb. Drilling a hole in the housing to get the cables in will do it for you.
I'm not sure about the direct plug-n-play for VVME kits in the fogs - they're direct for headlights, but I don't see how they could be direct for the fogs. Maybe they are for a different generation of A4 than you have. I think a direct connection would be fairly easy on a pre-facelift B5 because it's just another halogen H7 fog bulb in the housing. On the facelift design, the connector is cast into the fog housing, and the backside of that connector (inside the housing) is then run to the bulb. That won't do. You have to run direct from ballast to fog bulb for it to work, or you're gonna be dealing with melted wires or a fire. 18 gauge wire can't handle 22,000 volts of electricity, regardless of how low the current the power ballast is generating.

thanks for the information .. based on the DIY on you need to cut the old wire harness from the fog lights and then connect it to the new wire harness which plugs directly into the ballast... i had a hid kitfor my 540 which hadplug that fit directly to the ballast ..
hopefully it will be done tomorrow ..
