Okay, I bought my 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro in December of 2006. It's had a Check Engine Light on every since I bought it, but it has run flawlessly since I've owned it. I know the car is overdue for the dealer service, and it needs it, but the closest Audi dealer is like 6 hours away. What I'm wondering is, Will my car being overdue for service cause the CEL to come on???? I wouldn't think so, but otherwise, it must be something very minor. I just though thatmaybew/ it kinda being "upscale" or"luxury" or whatever, they do something every time it's serviced, and the car throws CEL if it misses one??? Crazy, I know, butthis fairly unfamilar territory for me.I plan to have the car serviced as soon as possible, but until then, is there any way of knowing what would cause it??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Probably and smog related fault code, you won't notice the engine running any differently, un-less the cat converter is plugged.

 

IF that WERE the problem, that would have no negative impact on the engine would it??

 

It could be as simple as leaving your gas cap loose and hell no!

 

Get your ecu scanned for fault codes. Autozone should do it for free. Post the codes up back here.

 

Autozone is free for scans, a VAG-COM would do the trick, or a VW dealer. There's a vag-com locator site in the audi links post, but the page seems to be down at the moment.

 

I don't have Autozone where I live.... any other suggestions???

 

Buy a code reader.
