Hi,

I have a 1999 Audi A4 1.8T with 60K miles on it. I need to get the brake pads and rotors replaced (both front and rear). I want to get it done in a shop and want to make sure i am not getting ripped off, or i am not buying good enough parts. If i can get answers to these it's great!

- Is it better to buy parts online and getting it fixed by someone rather than having the shop guy buy the stuff?
- Which company pads/rotors are good? (mine is just normal highway/local road usage.. nothing fancy).
- Is there a compatibility issue with pads/rotors? (for ex: Midas folks told me that they can use Midas parts build as per Audi's measurements.. But are the y the same as HAWK/EBC etc?)
- What are any additional things i should look out for? (anything special for ABS? Anything special for electronic sensors in brakes?)
- Any recommendations for service shops in the SF Bay Area that specialize in Audi?

My car showed the brake pads worn out sign last night. I need to prompty replace them but I have no idea whatsoever about them.

Where should I get it done. Is it too complicated of a job that I have to take my car in to an audi delership for the expertise and the tools required? Or can I take it to a local Midas and have them fix it? How much will the brake pads cost?

Gangs, did you find out more info about the the compatibility of the Midas brake pads? Please advise on whatever knowledge you have gathered.
