Default Need to replace turbo

I have a 1999 A4 1.8T and my dealer says I need a new turbo. Is this something I can do myself...I'm kinda handy with tools. Also, is there anywhere I could purchase a turbo unit (maybe even used) online? Please help.

Is your car stock? If not, this is a perfect opportunity to pump it up a notch...

Try a T3/4 if you feel up to it... Probably around $600 for a decent one, and you CAN put it in yourself...

Welcome to the forums!

Unless money is very tight, I highly recommend getting a turbo upgrade while you're replacing it. A complete K04 kit is simple, effective, and it's a direct replacement. It's not a complicated job either. Just pay very close attention to the instructions and ask questions when something comes up.

Yes you can do it yourself - it will take a collection of basic tools and you will want to get your hands on some manuals.
And do a lot of research if you have never taken apart an Audi before.

SO, just for my information then, would it be safe to mod a 100k + 1.8T without re-building?

I'm kinda toying with the idea of a different A4, higher miles maybe is'nt such an issue???
