I'm in the market for a new used car. I have always been a fan of the Audi A4 and VW Passat (1999-2004). I want to purchase one of the two but I am getting told by alot of friends and family that these German cars are nothing but problems. I hope that they are all wrong but can anyone just let me know any major things to look for when inspecting these cars? I dont mind having to do some repairs on a car but I dont want to spend a crap load of money on a car before I'm even able to drive it. At the same time I dont want to buy a car and have it in the shop more then out on the road being driven. So, if there is anything specific I need to look out for with an A4 or Passat (1999-2004) please feel free to let me know.
