Well, to start i have an '98 A4 2.8. After about 3-4 months, my passenger side rear speaker (all the way in back) started to blow out. Due to shortage of money, i have put off replacing it. I called Audi several times for a price quote. I go to the service dept. and wait for them to change it, and before they do they tell me its going to cost about $330. $180 for the speaker and $150 for installation, i figured forget that. What I want to do now is re-do my whole system. I know what I'm looking for, for the most part as far as what specs im looking for in my equipment, but I don't know a few things that I could use some clarification on. The things i need to know are..

1) first I was curious what size speakers i should be looking at to purchase
2) I have read that it is an 8-speaker system, will i need to replace all 8? or can i go with 4? or what?
3) do you think i will be able to accomplish this w/o any prior experience (i do have a book for a lil' help)
4) the speakers found behind the back seats, are those subs? or are those just speakers as well?
5) what size is my head unit? DIN? standard? Double DIN?
6) would anyone be interested in buying my Bose speakers off me

Thats all I can think of for now, if any of you who have done this before and actually know what you're doing and would like to help me, or not help but answer any questions and guide me it would be greatly appreciated

dude, My rear speaker whent out too. But I will redue the whole speaker before I even will consider reduing the whole system.
But:
1) The ones that would fit and would have no space left.
2) you could combine some together like 2x2 rear and 2x2 front.
3) just read around, there is some books.
4)the subs are big ones, with a lot of crap in them.
5) Have no idea, mine is DIN
6) I'm gona try and fix mine one.

IF you gona build it and run 8 speaker you will need amp. couse the head unit would be expensive to drive all of them.
I would suggest leaving wires in and trying to utilize them all. doing the wiring again is very hard, couse it would go under the carpet, uuuuuu, it would be hard.

1. i think the fronts are 5' and rears 5.25' but not sure
2. check the rear doors, any speakers? if not you only have 6 speakers, front mid, tweaters and rear speakers. you will need to replace all the speakears in any case.
3. my experience w/ car audio is that its easy..... you say you have a book then ur good. anyways if you do have any probs just post them here and im sure someone can help.
4. not sure what ur talking about. the ones on the rear deck? ones a sub and ones a mid range. (driverside=sub)
5. if ur getting a new deck you will need an adapter, most car audi stores will have it.
6. no
