Default Never Thouught i'd be asking this...

Ok, as some of you know i just installed some slotted rotors on my car

my question. if the wheel is spinning forward should the inside most part or outside most part of the slot come in contact with the pad first?

or, to re-word it, should the slots look like there spinning with the wheel, or against it?

thanks

You're wondering if you put your rotors on backwards? Like, the way that a tire has 1 direction of rotation, you're wondering if its the same for rotors?

I think that the outermost part of the slot should contact the pad first...

yea, im asking if slotted rotors are uni-directional

if so, does it make a difference?

Well, I don't know.

But start at the begining- whats the point of slots? To dissapate heat? If so... wouldn't one think the inner part should contact first?

I'm pulling that straight out of my @$$ by the way- just in case you couldn't tell

well...

the whole point of the slots is to disapate gas that builds up between the pad and the rotor. the gas is spinning, so its tendancy is to be forced outward.

if the rotors are slotted against the direction of the wheel, like in the picture above, then the gas would have to travel toward the centerline of the wheel, against where its being pushed, before being disapated. but if there going with the wheel , opposite the picture above, then that would provide a straight line path for the gas to the outside of the wheel

only, i see many time trial cars, and other tuning shops putting them the other way. I have no trouble with that, I just want them on the right way so i dont mess anything up.

anybody have any input?

Here's another:

you can see where the caliper is in this picture... I maintain, outside of the slot contacts the pad first.

I would like to know how much of an effect "gasses" have on braking- large enough to impact? What about brake dust, there isn't enough being produced to actually affect braking right? Either way, if the point of slotted rotors is to dissipate anything- heat, gasses or dust, then you would want them opposite of that Cobra. Then again... maybe they are supposed to "draw" in cold air...

I was looking around and have seen them posted both ways!

Somebody must know the answer... because everyone wants drilled/slotted rotors!
