Default New A4 owner.

Got myself a nice 1999 A4 1.8T AT with 94K on it.

I would like to know what are the major things I should look at as far as maintainance and what are the common problems I can expect.

I understand the timing belt needs to be replaced at 90k so I'm checking if it was done. What else should I look at?

Thanks.

I would also like to know what are some possible simple and recommanded mods that I can add to it as far as improving engine performance?

Where can I get the owners manual for it? is it available for DL somewhere?(maybe someone has one for sale?). Is there a maintainance manual?

Some Mods I recommend are.

ECU Chip: This Mod offers 40-50HP and 60-80 Torque, it's the best bang for your buck. I beleive most people go with "GIAC" for your model but you can also use "APR"

Now with the chip you'll have to replace your "Diverter Valve" which will run you 35$-130$ depending on which brand you go with and how much you want to spend, the chip itself is 500$. So for 535$ you got yourself another 40-50 ponies under the hood, and it makes an incredible difference or so I hear

Now with the added power from the chip, your gonna want a "Full Cat-Back Exhaust System" this will reduce restriction, and makes your car a smoother louder beast This is a upgrade that is highly recommended when chipping because the stock exhaust system is just to restrictive... Some of the major companies are: Borla, Milltek, AWE or custom.

Another cool mod is an "Cold Air Intake": This will run you around 300$-325$ and you can either go with Carbanio (Which is better and looks nicer) or you can go with Evolution Motorsports Cold Air Intake... This will give you some more cold air to the turbo, better throttle response mabye a pony or so and give you a very nice sporty tunish sound that most of us like

Once you got all those, you'll probably be more than satisfied with your car! Then start doing costmetics, hope that helped and enjoy!

Grats on the car btw!

One more thing. The car was manufactured on 5/25/99. Is it the newer or the older model for that year?

Is the chip a simple plug in or do you have to tune the engine after you put it in? Where do you get it and where do you get the valve?

I think I will stick to a chip mod for now. Leave the exhaust system for later.

BTW, I'm probably going to end up with an S4 instrument panel. The display in the panel is broken (lines all over it) and the guy I'm buying from is installing the S4 panel. How do you set the milage to show correctly? The new panel shows about 20K miles less than the original one.
