Default New to Audi

I am currently trying to sell my '92 Eagle Talon TSi AWD to get a newer/nicer car. I've been looking at a lot of 328's but they're kind of expensive. Recently I've come up with the idea that an Audi would be just as nice, and not nearly as expensive. I'm looking to spend about 10-12 for my new car, and I want it to be AWD. Since owning my Talon I'm really partial to the AWD and I like the turbo as well. From what I've seen on Ebay I can probably pick up a 99-00 for what I'm looking to spend. Does anybody have any suggestions what to look for when looking at Audi's, common problems, or commonly overlooked maintainance, anything would be helpfull.

Thank you,
Cory Mittleider

Welcome to the forums. I just recently got my A4 2001 1.8t FWD with 47,000 miles on it for 12,300. It's in amazing condition and came with HIDs and the 5 spoke 17s from the 2002+ Audis. For around 20 bucks, you can run a CARFAX report on unlimited vehicles and it tells you all about the history of the car. www.carfax.com . I wish you luck in your hunt and hope you find the perfect car.

quattro audis are considerably more than frontraks, but you should be able to find a 99-01 1.8T for 10-12k pretty easily...audis price range varies greatly depending on where you are, or where you're looking to buy, you can sometimes save thousands if you're willing to take a road trip or even a short flight to find the audi you want (like in california, cars commonly go for 2 grand more than they would in, say, arizona or oregon)...here are a few things to watch out for....

ORIGINAL: bentframe

make sure the suspension is good....worn control arms will squeak, tie rod ends will clunk when you hit bumps, cv joints will click during low speed turns (if you're on the gas), open up the oil cap to look for signs of oil sludge (this is especially important with the 1.8Ts)...do the same for the power steering fluid, as well as the coolant. sometimes people top them off or refill them with regular fluids and that can cause big problems including sludge issues....test the cruise control, the switches are known to fail (typically it's an easy fix, a good way to knock a few bucks off the price ). make sure the sunroof is fully functional as well as windows (check each door's switch individually)..listen on the freeway for a humming/grinding sound for failing wheel bearings..oh, and leave the radio OFF during the test drive, test the speakers before or after driving....also consider the mileage on the timing belt, they need to be done every 60-90k miles....search the forums, there are TONS of threads on all this stuff...

Oh yes... worst car I've ever owned. You're moving to a much, much better place.

Maybe you'll be interested to see what I've done to my Talon so far then. I managed a 12.98 @105 mph @ 25psi no knock.

It's not entirely up to date, but you can see some of the stuff I've done.

Thanks,

Yeah a friend of a friend has a 92 with a 2.5L evo motor... up to around 600 whp @32 PSI I think. He runs some fast 1/4's. They are still garbage cars though... door sag, creaks and rattles... blah.
