New Audi - Few Quick Questions
Hey everybody,
I searched for a few keywords, but I didn't get the results I was looking for, so here goes my 2 quick questions:
I have a B6 (2003) 1.8t which i bought last week. I love it, and I am very happy with my purchase. Last night when I was driving with the windows down, I noticed that when I let off the gas pedal, there seems to be a breif sqeeking noise coming from the engine bay. Now, I am a huge car nut, love everything about them, so I was guessing that it could be the excess boost pressure from the turbo? I dont have a BOV or DV that I am aware of. I put the car in 5th gear at low speed and floored it, and when I let off it didnt make the same noise...so I just want to know if this is a common noise with the 1.8 or if I should be concerned.
Secondly, When I start the car, the Temp Gauge doesnt go up, which is normal I know...there have been record high's here in STL so it hasnt been too cold, yet it seems like the temp gauge takes about 15 minutes to work (show proper tempature). Furthermore, it seems like after some more time (not sure how much exactly) the temp gauge seems to be not working because it is at the far left again, like I just turned the car on. Any suggestions? Thanks!
just a quick look at the new addition:

just a quick look at the new addition:
First off nice car, I love black.
You do have a DV, All cars that have a turbo will have some sort of pressure relief valve. If the sound happens when you close the throttle then you are most likely hearing the DV open and recirculate the air into the intake. Audis have a closed loop system so the DV dumps the air back into the intake before the turbo.
As for your temp gauge, it doesn't go up immediatly when you start the car, it takes a few minutes, 15 is too long though. The hotter out it is, the faster the temp gauge will go up. You most likely have a bad Coolant Temperature Sensor, they are known to go bad on our cars. Get a new one from your local auto parts store (they're about $8), it only takes about 3 minutes to replace. This sensor if not replaced can cause starting problems later, so don't let it slide.

Nice car man, I have the exact same thing except quattro. Ima see if I can hear that similiar noise to tell you if its common or not... I do hear my turbo if I really lay into the gas, hardly though
But it doesnt sound like much of a squeek to me, more of a hiss...

I had a 96 Civic EX 5sp, I/h/e. It was a beast..and by beast I dont mean fast, or nice...it was LOUD, and sadly, I couldnt wait to replace it with something much, much nicer...enter my new A4!
I love my Audi
but I miss my Honda...
D16 sound like crap anyway. You certainly gonna like the way an Audi sounds with exhuast. I personally have had my Audi since April, so I don't know much. But a lot of guys on here say that a custom MagnaFlow or Borla system arethe best. I rolled with the MagnaFlow brand exhuast on everything I've ever driven, I recommend them HIGHLY.
As for the squeaken noise I'd ***-u-me thats just your dv releasing.
And Audis are weird they don't warm up as fast as a Honda, and their opt. temp is much higher. So patients is maybe the solution to you problem. But I guess that still wont explain the temp guage acting funny. But when you get it fixed don't expect the car to heat up as fast as thee old Honda. Don't forget your boosted now which = higher temps.
