...2.8s are more reliable and slightly nicer (most have real leather, fully-loaded, etc.)...

Quick correction 96 A4 came with real leather... 97 - 04 came with Pleather.. just to let you know

What are you talking about? All b5 1.8t's came with leatherette. The 2.8's had real leather as options.

I don't even think leatherette was a option on 2.8's every one I've seen eithyer had the sport buckets which were like the S4 seats and the regular ones I've never seen a 2.8 with leatherette but I could be wrong with the earlier A4's since I havwen't seen to many of those

The 2.8's had leather, not leatherette.

i can't even tell it's leatherette... but now that i know i'm going to be self conscious. I would have sworn it was real leather on my 1.8t

Sorry guys I was mistaken... was a while ago i read this and was trying to remember instead of researching again

ORIGINAL: brrman

The 2004's and up do have leather as an option in the 1.8t
Anything previous to that has leatherette (no leather option) with a mild exception. You could get leatherette as far back as the A4 goes (1996). But 1996's were an oddity - you could also get a real leather option in the 1996 1.8ts. Somewhere in the production of 96-97 they changed the real leather option to leatherette. The 1996 brochure never ever mentioned leathertte, but some cars did come with it.

In any case, Audi's leathertte is very resilient and many people do mistake it for real leather.

Hmmm well that doesn't count because we didn't even get 1.8t's in 1996!

wow, im in the same boat as the individual who started the tread. im trying to move from an integra to an audi and think that the a4 is the way to go.

I am really wanting to go with the 2.8 but you all have engrossed me.

When you say that the 1.8t is well accepting when it comes to mods, what in specific do you mean? can someone give me a quick run through?

My goals are as follows in order from first to last.
-suspension
-rims (wanting deep dish)
-subtle body kit or lips
-engine work

look im going for

widebody kit, 327865231856.5 foot deep dish rims, never seen those taillights before.

1.8T is an easy mod. a lot of people are happy with just a chip, and swapping out the stock turbo gives you HUGE resluts.

I saw that car in an online magazine. It's a heavily modded S4 with an RS4 body kit. The only original RS4 body kit I've seen costs about $6500.
