a4 is a very reliable car, and if you ever have problems or want to make upgrades this forum can always help. well if you want to upgrade and customize your engine go with the 1.8T, but if you just want to have an audi to drive around go with the 3.0. those of course are the 2002 - 2005 (B6) models which are very popular and the newer models 2006 - ???? (B7) are only the 2.0 model.

another way to go, if your not completly into the new body styles would be to find an older 1.8t. 96-2000 or so, for alot cheaper, i got mine around 4 grand.
Then put some money into it. As far as tuning and what not. unless thats not your style, then by all means go for the newer ones, they arepretty.

Thats just a thought.
