Hey guys I just had a 2.5 inch custom catbackexhaust put on with a magnaflow muffler...and I notice a very metallic, almost like burnt metal or the way a MIG welder smells, after I get out of the car when I am finished driving. Is this normal or should I go have the muffler shop check this out?

P.S. - I'm in a 2000 1.8T FWD manual

 

should be normal... if it still smells in a week i would take it back, but when i did custom 2.5 inches on my 2.8 it smelled like that for a couple days. I guess its just burning off the new coating or something

 

That's normal, its a cross between welding fumes and the pipe coating getting burnt off. You may even notice a small amount of smoke leave the exhaust after driving. If you took a piece of pipe and torched it for about 15 sec. you'll probably smell the same thing.
