I was at the dealer yesterday getting a new filter and the parts guy gave me this new filter. He said Audi made the change because of the problems they have been getting with the old filter. This new filter was bigger by 50%! He said it will holds more oil than the old one. Can anyone confirm that there was a changed in the design?

yes I have heard of a new filter being issued. And I heard it was bigger. Haven't seen it yet tho. Anyone have a pic?

 

I am interested as well... just got a couple Mann filters from "the Parts Bin" - I think the box said W940/25 and they are indeed 'large'.

UPDATE - I just called the Parts Bin because the Mann web site said I should have received w719/30 (not what I got). The folks at the Parts Bin did show a footnote from Audi in their catalog system saying the W940/25 supercedes the prev filter specifications for 1.8L Turbo from '96 on.

And yah... the thing is huge. Volume w/o any guts and it probably would hold a quart of oil by itself.
