Hey just pruchased my first Audi, and looking for some advice. 1999 A4 1.8T and since purchasing it i have had some significant problems with it. Here is a list.... any help with any of them would be great!

1. Water Temp gauge only works occasionally
2. Oil Temp gauge never works
3. Won't start sometimes, but with persistance and some gas peddal work it will start
4. Replaced the head unit and the "malfunction indicator light" came on.. since gone off but just curious about that

Any suggestions would be great... Thanks.

 

Did you Carfax before you bought?

 

umm why did you buy it??? Im guessing you got it for a really good price???

 

Carfax is a joke... it's easy to circumvent their stuff.

 

carfax doesn't always work but i wouldn't say its a joke.
either that or problems developed after he bought the car

 

The are a number of known issues with the instrument panels on the B5 model A4....especially before 2000. Try searching to see if these are some of those probelms.

Back to the question. Check your senders for the coolant temp and the oil temp

 

Yeah it was a really good price and the fact that i was out of a car 2 weeks wanted to get something fast.... I am more concerned about that starting up problem more than anything. It isn't to crazy of mileage on it but it does have 120,000 on it and maybe looking to see if there are any common problems with the ingintion process in higher mileage vehicals. It runs great and have absolutely no complaints with the performace of the car... I just want it to start up when it is supposed to

 

Could be anything from a vacuum leak, EVAP system, or fuel pressure leak. Take the car to autozone and have it scanned for codes.
