Default new potential owner

hey guys, i'm a noob so go easy on me. I've got about 14,000 to spend, so i was thinkin to spend about 11,000 on the car and 3,000 on mods. I think for 11k i should be able to get a decent 2000 a4. Which trim would you recommend, turbo or n/a? Also, what sort of mods can u get for 3000-4000. I can get nice wheels for about 1000 from a friend, but what about body kits? I want to enhance the car's appearance without it looking slammed or ricey (i like the look of the newer beefier a4, but unfortunately its out of my price range). are there any kits that make it look similar to the newer ones? and i know this is the a4 section, but does anyone recommend getting an a6 instead? thanks in advance

For your criteria, go with the 1.8t A4.
Lots of support and tons of mods you can do.
You can do chip, full exhaust with DP's, intake, and all the support upgrades for less than 4K.

The A6 will give you more interior room - that's all. That is a subjective issue. If you want/need more leg and shoulder room, then the A6 is for you.

ok thanks for the input. as far as body kits go, how many different types are available? And which one gives a clean, non-ricey look? How much do they cost to paint and install, and are they polyurethane or fiberglass?

I am also concerned about reliability. The J.D power 3-year dependability ratings just came out yesterday, and Audi was below industry average :-( Do you guys have problems with your cars? Does increasing the boost decrease the life of the turbo or motor? And what's the highest mileage someone has on their car so far? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks

OE body kits are ABS and very expensive. Most of the aftermarket kits are fiberglass, though.
LLtek is a good place to start and see what's available, but their prices are the highest in the industry.

Here's one of my old quotes regarding relaibility:
The most obvious issues are (no matter what the mileage may be):
Diverter Valve
upper control arms
coolant sensor (not the thermostat)

Other items that may need attention in high mileage cars are:
timing belt/tensioner
all turbo line hoses for leaks
water pump
thermostat
clutch

And, of course the turbo should be considered, but that's hard to assess.

By the way: Audi is NOT an unreliable car; that's an old rumor.

You need to realize that it is a German performance car. German performance cars require care and attention; neglect will result in serious repairs and expense. Care and attention can be defined as simply being disciplined about the schedule of maintenance and immediately dealing with a problem when it arises. You can NOT let a problem linger like you can with a Volvo or Toyota. If a problem comes up, the longer you wait to fix it, the worse it will get; it will cause other items to fail and your wallet will suffer exponentially. But if you treat your Audi with respect and care, you will be rewarded with a superior driving experience.
The boost increase of a chip can decrease the turbo's life, but it's all relative to a lot of factors; from driver's personality to maintenance and whether support mods have been included in the upgrades.

I've heard of daily driven Audis with 250,000+ miles that are happily rollling along.
