i was driving around yesterday in my 03 a4, and my car started vibrating and rumbling excessively and my check engine light started blinking, i took it into the dealership cus i have a warranty and he said i needed new software and his chargin me around 150... how do i know he actually changed the software is there anyway for me to check it and is faulty software sound like the source of the problem or is he charging me for some bullshit

 

sounds fake to be, i can understand there might be a programming flaw in the ecu, but "you need new software" seems sketchy, thats my 2 cents

ask him to be a little more descriptive about what he remapped on your ecu. the blinking cel is no good. and if your car is under warranty why is he charging you anything?

the car is less than 4 years old and the computer is failing? I would go back and get some more details. ask to talk to the techs in the back to get an explanation don't deal with the sales/service people.

bring the details back here and let us know and take it from there.

$150 sounds like they hooked your car up and cleared some codes and now your are good to go... that's a free fix w/o the dealer.

 

Poor resolution to your issue. Software would be the the last resort toyour CEL. He should pull codes, clear it and test drive. Log all codes in order. Then work from there.

 

its already gettin done i need the car by later tonight so i had to bring it in and get it done as soon as possible

 

I had something like that happen to me and it ended up being a bad MAF. I would get a 2nd opinion, Maybe go to another tech or something.
