Hey Russ, are you just trying to replace your factory speakers or are you also looking to put a sub in that cubby hole in the trunk? Have you asked any of your local car stereo places about it?
Yes on the factory speakers but not sure what I'm going to do with the sub. I'm also curious about the nature of the Audi Symphony system and if I should replace it. I'm not into the Rap bumpin but I like nice clean sound...highs and lows.

Also, the sound system at this point is low on a very big list of performance upgrades. If the right thing to do is just replace the factory speakers, it may move up higher on the list.

Wow Vitamin that is exactly what I'm talking about! I'm glad someone else has done this as I was kind of skeptical that it could be done. I think I just might print out your pics and show them at my local car stereo place so they know what I'm talking about. Do you like the setup? I mean you are satisfied how it sounds right? Did you do the install yourself or did you have a stereo place do it? Would you mind PM'ing me with cost specifics?

Right now I'm looking at a 5 channel amp to power all the door speakers and 1 sub. If I get it, it will be 50x4 and 200x1 RMS. Once I get the amp I'm going to buy a sub and then door speakers.

I dont know about you but the powered subs just dont put out enought IMO for a car and trunk that large, I think if you went with the custom set up the shop was telling you about one 10 and a decent amp will make you very happy..... As for door speakers that sounds right and its pretty strait forward but you must have the right ohm load speakers of else you will have issues with overpowering the speakers or underpowering them

I have a kenwood woox powered sub. 5.25 sub with 6.5in passive and with it tunned right it sounds like a mild 10in sub. I like how it compliments my sound system without the huge bump of a bigger sub, plus install is easy plug in rca's or tap rear speakers, and dial in and bam youve got bass. I will be attempting the install (I wonder if they make a rca adapter for the stock concert headunit) , but I may go vitaminb6's route cause its pretty nice setup.

The sound is awesome. I've posted about sub installation in this forum a number of times - do a search for term "sub" posted by me and you'll get a bunch of helpful information. Afterwards post any specific questions you have and I'd be glad to help.

(Note: I built the box myself out of 3/4" MDF, so the box and related materials were not a significant cost. Others have posted that they had a shop build a custom fiberglass box for them)

Well I just got back from a couple of local car stereo places. One place I spoke with said the only proper way of doing it is by using fiberglass. Then he proceeded to quote me a crazy $450 bucks for just the box. (which I can kind of understand since I know fiberglass is a PITA to work with) Another car place didn't seem phazed at all by doing it and said it would be $150 bucks for the box and he could do it in one day. But he didn't go into details about what kind of box.

Vitamin, you wouldn't happen to have instructions on how you built your box would you? Also, what is MDF? Any help with the actual box & box installation would be of great help.

mdf is Medium Density Fiberboard....its like processed hardwood made from wood fibers...its used to make most subwoofer boxes...but if you want a custom enclosure fiberglass is the way to go... there might be some issues with making a tuned enclosure in that small of an area.but im sure it will sound really good if its done right....I reccomend an alpine type s 10" wih a rockford fosgate 200-300 watt rms amplifier

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2SOBA61...0&I=500SWS1042 That is the sub... Alpine type S

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-2SOBA61...120&I=575P5002 < That is the amp, Rockford Fosgate 125x2. With this amp you can wire each channel to one of the subwoofers vioce coils

this is a sound quality setup...if you want it to just have alot of basss..you can just get like audiobahn or something.
