New steering rack installed
My 96 A4 started leaking p/s fluid into the boot, bummer right. We took it in for repairs and they got me for like $1000. However now, the steering wheel has a shake or almost slip in it while turning going foward and reverse. Did they not install this right or is there a bad part that wasn't replaced? Is there something visual I can check? I think they put a used rack in my car and the car whines like it's low on p/s fluid.
Yes I'm a noob here, so for any help....Thank you.

check your fluids first. turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and then to the right a few times and see if it still does it. how could you not know if they put a new or used part on your car. also, have you check the pump?
I don't know if they did or not. Just thought if there was something else with the steering wheel slipping. We had the control arms replaced was wondering if it would be a tie rod issue. Yea the pump is probably bad but they didn't replace it.
With the front wheels off the ground, turn the
steering wheel all the way left and right a few times.
This should bleed the system.
I also paid around $1,000 to have my steering rack replaced.
I supplied a remanufactured rack from
www.carsteering.com
for $350, and my mechanic charged me $590.
I paid $30 freight to return the core, and needed $22 worth of P/S fluid.

I am in the same boat right now. I just fixed a leak in one lines coming off the pump just to find that my rack is dumping fluid out of the left side. I am looking for access to a lift in Los Angeles. I cant afford the labor cost right now. This pretty much couldnt come at a worse time/

as crazyhawk says ( but without the engine running ) if the fluid is low the and the engine is running it will cause the fluid to froth/foam and you wont be able to bleed it till the bubbles settle
