Default new turbo kit help

i wanna get a ko4 kit when i get my tax money. awe tuning has one for about $1800 for my car '00 1.8tqsm. their kit includes the k04-015 turbo, all gaskets, bosch spark plug set, 5.0 bar fuel pressure regulator, and the GIAC chip. i was wondering if i can get each part individually and maybe save up some money. i could get the K04 turbo with all the necessary gaskets for $725 plus shipping, spark plugs set no problem, but i was wondering how much the GIAC chip would be for the K04 and i cant find any site that would sell the 5.0 bar FPR, how much would that cost? some shop told me that i dont really need an exhaust system with the ko4 setup, i could wait on that. is that true? also, the same shop told me that with the k04 i would get better gas mileage because of power to weight ratio, more power pulling same weight, resulting in better fuel consumption. sounds logical, but is it true? i know it's a lot of questions, i know, i'm a newb, but please help.

Go with the kit. It actually saves you alittle money just getting it all at once not to mention you can install everything with one day instead of poping the hood after getting peice by peice. giac runs around 400 if you upgrade the software to pc-16 or j31 its going to be alittle more around 200 or so. www.greedspeed.com or www.ecstuning.com has a fpr. Depending on how you drive you'll maybe 3 or 4 mpg extra out of it but not much cause you will def be punching it alot more than usual

Were the MY2000 or the MY2001 that got screwed for programming....

I think it was the 00.. but I may be wrong...

lets see

$800 for turbo
$4-500 for software ????
$12 (maybe) for spark plugs
$fpr... im gonna say 100... that sounds high.. but better high than low

800+500+12+100 = $1412 hmmmm if you could do that I would.. who cares if you dont get it all in one package...

you will have a better power/weight ratio .. but whats that matter when you are driving on the highway less than 1/4 throttle w/ no boost?

also .. if you do have more power.. you will use more fuel.. not like your using the same amount of fuel for more PSI.

with the k04 j31 you run what? 22 PSI? I dont know.. but more PSI = more air = more fuel... so yea....

the only thing about the k04 is that it flows a little denser so you get more power w/ less boost.. but you still need more fuel...

thats the gist of what it is part by part or full kit. Id choose the kit over anything especially from a reputable company. I guess im on my own but hey whatever floats your boat.

He said someone told him he would get better MPG out of a k04... I was just explaining..

I forgot to mention that the added MPG doesnt come from the turbo it comes from the fuel/timing maps from the software... off boost will still be affected and will result in better MPG

thanks for the replies. i think i'll go with the greedspeed kit. does anybody have it? would you recommend this kit? it's the cheapest so far, only $1594, compared to $1800 from awe tuning, but then again awe tuning uses giac, and you can get the upgraded program for $200. is there really a difference between the greedspeed chip and giac? awe tuning claims 235hp with their kit, greedspeed claims 225hp+. what are your opinions?

does anybody have a used ko4 kit for sale? do you know anybody that does?

all I have ever heard about neuspeed products is that they are the super weak sause , extra mild.

Go with a part togther kit..

look on audizine.com, audiworld.com, vwvortex.com

you may find something...

There are all crank numbers keep in mind.. you will pulling 22% less to the wheels if you are AWD, and maybe 11/12% less for FrontTrak
