I am looking to buy an Audi A4 Avant that will be my first car. Consequently I know very little about cars, maintenance, etc.

I found out today that there was a time when one could get Avant with a manual transmission. While I've never owned a car I do know how to drive a manual and quite enjoy driving them.

I found a manual Avant with 99557 miles for $15,800.

My question is, is this considered a lot of miles for a Audi and do manual transmissions tend to last longer than automatic..

My other option is to spend twice the amount of a 2010-11 automatic.

Thanks!

Manual/automatic doesn't really matter in these cars.. The only thing you need to avoid are the CVT "automatic" transmissions that they put in non-quattro vehicles..

I suppose I have to ask.. Its your first car.. A wagon isn't typically a first car choice.. ??

Anyways, it looks like a good car.. Your probably going to need to get the timing belt changed right away ($1000-$2000). You should probably get a quote from a local shop before you buy..

Then of course there is always the question: why are you looking at something so new? You could get a 02 or 03 (same body style) with the same milage for half the price..
