OK, 2000 1.8TQ never had fun visiting the dealer while my tools are in storage... Last visit to dealer for a simple code reading left me with a permanent rear brake warning light message that is most annoying. It looked as though the dealer unscrewed my brake light bulb as it fell into the taillight housing! (not to mention catching them racing my car in the back lot and replacing a vacumn hose while leaving the bolts to the combi valve loose and yes, they fell out [:@]) All lights are functioning but cannot rid myself of this "error message". Perhaps reprogramming is in order?

 

vag-com can clear all your codes. there is a vag-com locator in the "audi links" sticky at the top of this forum. autozone has an OBD2 tool that they loan out for free, you can also clear codes with that. i don't know for sure if the universal autozone tool can reset brake warning light..are you sure it's not the wear indicator telling you it's time for new pads?

 

New pads. It's a "rear brake light" warning message. The problem is the DEALER did something besides perhaps the messing with my bulb. as well as the crappy, expensive and useless work they always do. I am hopeful it's in the programming as I'm ready to purchase the vag software for this beast.

 

how many miles are on the pads? a bulb removed would trip a different warning light, that wouldn't trip the wear indicator light. maybe they were a little hard on the brakes when they were racing it in the back...vag-com is an excellent investment, but like i said, if it's the wear indicator, then you're going to need new pads

 

The pads have about 50 miles on them. The light came on at the dealer with the forementioned bulb incident. Just installed a Spec II flywheel and disc, timing belt, Hotchkiss sway bars, Brembo rotors, complete tuneup/cleanup. Car is very quick!

 

What did you have done that the dealer was in the brake lights? Double check the bulb. IF it is the incorrect bulb, it may trip the light even if it works.

 

The dealer was NOT supposed to touch anything other than read me the codes. The dealer mechanic's were 0 for 5 when it came to fixing things on this car under warranty. I reinserted the bulb that magically fell out when it was in was at the dealer. The brake lights work fine and the light is inserted correctly. Perhaps disconnecting the battery would reset this error message?

 

With disconnecting the battery that might clear some codes, but it will also LOCK your radio. Make sure you have the radio code. Also, it might idle rough after that fact (I dont know if this pertains or not) You may need to align your throttle body.
