If the thread is not "locked", you will see a "new thread" square, like this:

This was extremely helpful for a noob like me. So thanks for taking the time to compile all of this information in one place.

 

in the first post it mentioned that the timing belt i an issue for the A4 because of a bad tensioner design, is that for the 1.8t or the 2.8 v6 or both? I'm looking to pick possibly pickup a used 2.8 v6 soon.

Well, judging from my $4000 repair bill caused by a timing belt on a 2.8l 2V, I'd say both have the same issue (and are interference engines). Must be confirmed by experts.

Do you know how to change the automatic transmission fluid in a tiptronic B5 S4?

Such as where the drain and fill plug is located and how to fill it if its on the bottom of the pan.

I only wanted to drain 2 quarts out and put 2 fresh quarts in.
