Default NEWBIE KO4 ?s

hey i think my insurance is going to fix my car so i will be doing some needed upkeep to my a4. I have a 2000 a4 1.8t trip front wheel drive with 105xxx miles on it. all stock for now. i know that i am going to replace the timing belt, tensioners, etc and buying the parts from audi. the next thing i have read is that the snail or turbine for our cars needs replacing at around 85k? is it true? if so i want to keep my car reliable as possible. so i have heard of a k04. how hard is it to install it into my car? and is the k04 from the newer a4? how much power can i get from it.. do i need to upgrade ecu? what injectors? any info that i need to know?

i tried doing a search on ko4 and the search came up with a lot of no help.. if anyone has input or a link it would be grateful.!!!

Dont buy the parts from audi for your TBelt.. Get it from ECS.com or anywhere other than the dealer.. They are sure to be the most expensive. The turo/turbine/snail should last longer than 85k miles from what ive learned.. If you dont hear anythings bad, or have a real reason to believe something is wrong dont worry about it... Just get GIAC for now, then if the turbo goes later, upgrade to K04 if you want. These cars are slow stock which would make one think that their turbo isnt working right, but get a chip and you will be amazed!

I think with just the k04 youll get around 220 hp and will need a fuel pressure regulator and injectors.. Thats about 20hp more than what a chip will give you, but a chip will still give you about 50 extra hp and 80 tq. I think if you have the k04 and giac software its like 240 hp... Those are just guesses... Im not an expert by any means as far as the k04 setup goes.

Listen onepoint8tee, and buy the parts from ECS

I dont think that you'll need to replace the turbo at 85k. I have about 135k and my K03 runs like a baby...

Also, I think I read that the tip tranny cant handle the k04 w/chip without modifying it.. Again not an expert.

Yeah GIAC is a chip... You dont need injectors if you just get the ecu upgrade.. Yeah plug and play.. Your ecu needs to be taken out to get bench flashed, theres no soldering onto the ecu, its a flash for 2000 like mine.. Get it youll love it.. Major difference!

The only other thing you need to get if you get chipped is an upgraded Diverter Valve, the 710N DV is what a lot of people use, its used in the 220hp TT.. About a $35 part and pretty simple to instal yourself.

Go to giacusa.com and search for a dealer in your area.. APR is the other most reliable chip out there... Otherwise you need to take your ecu out and ship it to either one which is kind of a pain cuz its a 3-5 day turn around on gettin it back.

You know I had always read that it was $35 too, and when i went to my local Barrier Audi dealer it was like 50. I was pretty ticked...but then i paid like a sucker.
