no radio reception
My wife has a 2003 drop top with a symphony II radio. The radio has no rececption. Both AM and FMstations are filled with static. I have read the manual andsreach this fourm. I cannot find an answer. I have not added any new equipment. It just stop working.
My 2002 A4 has the same problem. AM is all static, and only really strong FM stations come through. After a bit of snooping around, it look like the radio amplifyer is bad (it's located right above the rear window, and also connects the rear window defroster) The annenae is built into the rear window (just like the defroster)
I'm going to try to repair it myself, but I haven't got around to it.
part number 8E5 035 225 D
I haven't priced it at the dealer yet...I'm afraid what they might charge!

If your having problems with both AM and FM radio reception the diveristy controller is not working correctly. Now it may not just be the diversity controller, especially on a cabriolet which are famous for having HF and ZF (AM and FM) antenna wire problems that run from the radio all the way to the trunk lid where the diversity controller is. What you need to do is take it to the dealer and have it diagnosed. If it were a standard A4 sedan i would tell you to just replace the diversity controller because there is a TSB for them cracking.
I have the same problem in 98 hardtop. I've never heard of the diversity controller. I've heard it's the antenna amp that fails. Does this mean I might have to replace both? Do they usually both go bad?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I currently have the same problem as well, my AM reception SUCKS!! I'm gonna call the dealer right now and get some warranty work done. NOT IMPRESSED with the wifes 2002 A4 at this point. THank god for warranty, once its done, its gone!!

The diversity controller is located behind the driver's side D-pillar on your car so remove the center rear roof trim (pops down) then pop off the D-pillar, check to make sure the wiring is connected the controller (should have a square white and black connector on it) and check the controller itself for any cracks.
