hey, I've got the same **** going on with my BT setup. Won't boost past 10psi and engine chokes if I push it and lots of black smoke puffing out the exhaust. Already changes plugs (they looked fine) and put a high flow cat on to rid the cel and no difference. I'm thinking boost leak too. I'll let you know when I find it.

 

02tq- Do you have a manual? How's your clutch?

 

Funny you should mention that....because that is what I originally thought the problem was. When ever my gas is below a 1/4 tank, and I slam on the brakes, the car wants to stall. This just started about a month before my current problem. But I have talked to numerous mechanics saying they have never heard of a fuel pump doing what I described. They say it normally goes out at once, and that it doesn't just not pump above a certain percent throttle. But replacing it is my next step.

NO, I can boost up to 20 psi no problem, but I am not moving fast even at that boost level, and it is sputtering. Yours sounds more like a boost leak.

 

What year is your car? I think the 99s had a fuel pump recall. As well, Audi just released a new reclass on 2003 fuel pumps.

 

My car is a 5 speed, I thought it may be my cluch but i only have 48k on my car, i thought fuel pump too but the audi deal said he really doubted it.

 

I have a 97 1.8tqm.

 

I had the same problem when I forgot to block the hole on the fmic.

It looks a boost leak to me. look all the connectoins, clamps, pipes and make sure there is no hole, and all tight.
go under car and start from your turbo housing and follow until intake manifold.

I can tell you what happen to my car when I had boost leak (or a hole on my fmic)
-I could not go over 5psi even when I wot(wide open throttle)
-When I wot car was shaken and you can feel something wrong and does not accelerate fast
-If I drive the car and speed up not going over 5psi, everthing fine
-Car was running incrediable rich(I was getting bunch of running rich codes but no cel), I was changing the plugs twice a day
-When I took the plugs out, they were all black out.

 

yeah, but the wierd thing is, I CAN boost up to 20 psi. And it just doesn't pull. It just bogs.....................well, I say I can, the boost guage goes up to around 20 just as it normally did before this problem. If it was a boost leak, then I would understand this problem.

 

maybe you just get used to the power.
