Default No Start, Starter good...? Ignition switch

I have a 2000 A4 that won't start, No clicking, no nothing. I removed and tested starter, tested fine. Therefore starter is not getting 12V to the Solonoid relay mounted to the starter. Question is... ignition switch? or, is there another starter relay in the circuit besides the one mounted to the starter, or a fuse that could cause this?

Exact same thing happened to me. I got a new battery and starter and it still wouldn't start. Turned out to be a loose ground wire that connects to the engine.

Brand New battery. Pulled starter and bench tested, seemed fine. Do you recall where the loose Ground was?

I know there is one near where the starter mounts, but I cleaned/sanded that one and still nothing. WHen I turn the key dash light indicators come on, so switch must be getting power, but doesn't turn over. I was thinking possible ground as well because the day it happened, I used engine de-gresser and hosed off the engine compartment. But it ran fine for another 8 hours. Next morning, no start.

check the single black plug in wire on the starter motor, it might be bolted on im not sure but that's the wire from the ignition also check your fuses

I know the wire that you speak of, terminal connection, removed and cleaned the terminal on the starter, still nothing. What fuses do a I check? I cannot find any on the side panel (i.e. access only with driver door open) that relate to starting. There are some more with removal of kick panel (below steering wheel, mostly high amperage) but I don't know what they are for and look fine.

you will find these behind the fuses you have already found by removing the knee panel

Do you have a listing of what each one is for?

Replaced the Ignition switch and presto! Problem found! It wasn't the "typical" Audi switch problem that I've seen others describe on this site... switch not turning back to "on" from the "start" position. When I removed the switch, I found no continuity from the +12V supply to the starter relay terminal on the switch. Replaced the switch and it's fixed. Whew. One point of note... I first called a local Audi dealer for the part 4B0 905 849, they wanted $95. Hmmm, I saw it OEM for $60 online, but I wanted it today. So I thought, heck, I'll call a VW dealer to see what they sell it for.... and guess what, $73. $22 bucks cheaper for the IDENTICAL part, same p/n, even has the Audi symbol on it. Now that's how stealerships got their name.
