Hiya hope you can help me iv just brought an m reg a4 1.8 which is great but iv noticed theres a nocking noise in the front when i brake and drop gears down im guessing its something to do with the suspension but am not surehope ya can help! thanks

check to see if one of the caliper bolts is loose.

whAT? Whats an engine mount got to do with braking/knocking??? Please explain.

 

Probably Dave thought that because the post mentioned that the noise occurs during downshift in addition to braking.

And he described the sound as a clunk, so I could see it being a motor/tranny mount.

 

Is this tip or manual?

 

i had a knock comming from my brakes. it turned out that my brakes were rattling around inside my calipers. i replaced the brakes and rotors (cause they were mauled) and havent had a problem since

 

manual or auto the engine flexes that's why they have rubber mounts and when one breaks down that's when you get the clunk noise, common sense relay
