Ok, so i just got home from driving, (2003 A4 1.8Tq)

when all of a sudden a hissing noise from the engine bay started, and with the noise came a jumping tach. not a drastic jump in RPM's but a constant rev from under 1 (normal) to right about of right above 1 RPM. right when i hit the gas the noise goes away for an instance, then comes back when i idle at any RPM.

what do you think it is??

I think it is the vacuum line, or could it be the DV?? anyone have this problem before??

Sounds like a vac line. Have you opened the hood to listen for this noise? (good start )

 

yeah, when i opened the hood the sound comes from around the battery box area?? there i know is a vac line, i dont know where the DV is due to getting it about 4 weeks ago now?? any idea where it is?? a couple days ago i heard my brake squeeling, so i pulled over to check it and i had a hairline crack in the rotor!! lol..so i got a front and rear set of cross drilled and slotted rotors for it coming soon... i will get pics of the stockness with racing rotors up soon!!

 

DV is down by your front passenger wheel behind your bumper NO WHERE near your battery
