i wondered what years were affected by the sludge the worst.
my 2001 doesnt show a lick of sludge under the valve cover, so aslong as you keep up with a good quality oil change every 3k no worries

Same here, besides changing the normal wear and tear parts.. As far as any other problems, I've been lucky enough not to have any.. =)
I also agree the b5 is the better looking, performing car. The aeb (97-99.5) has the big port head, as well as drive by cable (easier to tune) the newer ones did have 20 more hp but once chipped or ko4'd they are about the same
