Default Noob with some questions...

Im about to get a 98 audi a4 and got some questions for you audi connoisseurs. The car I'm looking at is a A4 quattro 2.8 liter. I was originally looking at 1.8t but this v6 caught my eye...I'm not looking to trick my ride, just looking for a dependable car to get me from point A to point B. Something else...I'm assuming Audi's take premium gas?

Anyone have their .02 they'd like to share about this before it's too late?

well i have a 2.8.. but a lot of people say get the 1.8T cuz u can chip it and make it faster.. im sure down the road you may do some engine upgrades.. if you are going to, then i suggest u get the 1.8T.. if your gonna leave the engine pretty much stock get the 2.8 because there are very few mods for it

I think I am done with trying to mod my cars...too many mods is trouble, so maybe it would be best I stay with the 2.8. The v6 I am looking at has a sick interior...every 1.8t I have seen is boring inside, maybe I'm just a sucker for wood grain. I was looking at a couple 2000 models, but this 98 only has 85k miles on it. Are there any big differances from 98 to 2000? I noticed the 2000s have better headlights, the the 98 I'm looking at doesn't have fogs. Do yall use premium gas in your cars?

This be the car I'm considering...

93 octane is the way to go, also make sure the timing belt has been done on that car, should have been done around 60k miles.. looks like a very nice car.

Get a Toyota. If the quote above is truly what you want, in my opinion an Audi is probably far down on the list of cars best suited for your cirteria.

It has crossed my mind...same with a honda. I really want something European...I love the look of an A4 and it has always been on my wishlist. Maybe instead of saying something about getting me from point a to point b, I should have just said I'm not looking for something to trick out. I like the mix of luxury and performance that Audi brings to the table...the bottom line is that I'm gonna get an A4, it's pretty much which one are some years/models better than others? For instance, when I bought my truck...if I had asked these types of questions I would have learned to buy a 96 instead of a 95 because the 96 has a vortec instead of trottle body injection.

Gotcha. I've read quite a few posts in the past year on various foums and while there are differing opinions out there I believe the general concensus is the 2.8 can take more neglect than the 1.8.

You can see on my sig that my '98 has some failing electronic things (some of which I can fix pretty easily just haven't got around to it.) The engine has been very solid. No complaints yet. I use the mid-grade gas and have had no problems with it.

I have heard mixed things as far as putting in premium gas...some people say it's a waste and others say its neccesary.

well in my opinion i think its a must. i used to put 89 until i heard the significance of 93. i do find a difference though. it burns cleaner than 89. i think the key to a reliable car is 93 and good motor oil, like mobil 1, which i use.

I've got a 2000 A4 2.8 quattro, it's the most fun car that I have had, w/ plenty of traction for winter. I love the look of the A4, but you don't want to get an Audi if you are looking for a car to get you from point A to B w/ no ploblems, you will have them. So i don't know why i'll get another Audi, but i will. I love them.
