well in my opinion i think its a must. i used to put 89 until i heard the significance of 93. i do find a difference though. it burns cleaner than 89. i think the key to a reliable car is 93 and good motor oil, like mobil 1, which i use.

I have to disagree on the 93 as a must. As long as you don't hear your engine pinging/knocking a lower grade fuel is acceptable and won't do any harm. If you hear the pinging/knocking with the lower grade, then definitely use the 93.

A friend of mine is the service manager @ Carousel Audi, all of the techs there run either 89 or 92, most run 89. As long as you don't run 87 your are fine.

Right on. I have no experience with turbo.

for the turbo premium is A MUST HAVE. I dont know about the V6 but im not sure I'd wait till I heared pinging to make my decision. The performance from premium fuel is much better and it also adds to engine life. All for a few more bucks a week. I'd definitely go with premium.

you don't want to get an Audi if you are looking for a car to get you from point A to B w/ no ploblems, you will have them.
care to go into more detail? Are Audis known to have problems? If so, what are some of the common problems Audi owners see?

Audi's will have supension noises, lower control arms, upper control arms, sway bar bushings, especially if they are aftermarket sways, wheel bearings, cam gaskets will eventally leak, dash lights may fade, and of course the timing belt. We still love them though.
You can always call the dealer w/ the vin # and see what has been done to the car.
GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY! It's saved my ***. To date, the warranty company has shelled out $6,500.

Don't forget electrical problems and tons and tons of small PITA problems. I love my car but holy crap something is always in need of fixing. If I hadn't learned how to do stuff myself I would've spent as much to fix her in ONE YEAR as I paid for her.

$6500? ouch...the newer model A4s I have seen at the dealerships offer extended warranties for an extra grand or so. The 98 I am looking at is from a private seller...older couple who drove it around town and went to the dealership for everything. I wonder if there is any way I can purchase some kind of warranty from a third party?
