SO I got my car chipped about 2 weeks ago, GIAC, and when I go to the gas station today something hits me... WHAT OCTANE DID I MARK? (I sent the ECU in to be soldered).

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I put 91. But I could have put 93. Either way, both places I live have different "premium" ratings- 91 and 93. Honestly, I forgot what I wrote on the sheet. And honestly, even so, I'd be putting in different grades depending on my location.

Will this mess my car up? Should I do something about it? HELP!

Now i realize the rabbit weighs a hell of a lot less, but you have almost twice as much power.. You have got me so confused.. Its not a difficult process to find out what octane chip you got, just call whoever did it, or look on an invoice/receipt,etc. If your not sure you better get 93 just in case.. Yes it does. Premium is not that expensive. $0.20 per gallon times 15 gallon average fill up is $3.00 per tank. I fill up every 2 weeks so it's an extra $6 a month. If you fill up every week, it's an extra $12 a month.

 

Well our cars need premium to begin with... so that's 91 octane. But you can get a chip, and run a 93 octane program for a bit more power.

EDIT: but you can also run a 91 octane program on a chip... so you would keep using the same grade of gas you SHOULD have been using before getting chipped.

 

Call the company that did your ECU. If they can't help, fill half way with 91. If it knocks, add 93.

I think GIAC is 91 only.
