you should still have the oil pressure checked to be sure, it could be just a bit above where the light comes on

Might check out the info on this post. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/...1;t=013714;p=0

Has some info i followed on flushing your 1.8t.

One thing im looking into at the moment is installing an electric oil pressure gauge with a built in warning light.

Tech, yea I plan on getting the pressure checked, I definately want to make sure it was just a glitch.

TroyS, thanks for the link. That oil pressure gauge doesn't seem like a bad idea

oil pressure gauge is well worth it plus a vacuum gauge it tells a lot about your engines performance and is an insight to coming problems so it saves money

What brand of oil/viscosity are you using? It can make a difference.

'85 to '90 VWs had a funny oil pressure issue, because they had 2 oil pressure senders--1 for idle to 2k rpms, the other for 2k+ rpms. When the engine was hot, the light&buzzer would come on at about 2.3k-2.5k rpms. Oil pump wasn't making the 28 psi to satisfy the sensor. My Jetta would always do it with Quaker State and Valvoline 10W-30 and 10W-40, but not with Castrol. Mechanic tested the oil pressure--it was making 27.5 psi. TSB recommended putting in a 26 psi sender...problem solved for all oil brands/viscosities.

My recommendation: start using Mobil1 5W-50.

Hope this helps.

Dude you are SUPPOSED to use 5w40, if you have any more oil lights, dont come crying because it says in the manual to use 5w40. Valvoline sucks from what everyone else says, but I dunno. Did you change your filter, and did you use the bigger one?
